After living in our home for nearly numerous years, we realized we never used the back porch. It was a complete waste of space. Since we were in need of an extra study room for our youngest daughter, we decided to convert the sun porch. The project was not overly difficult. We tore the walls down to the studs in order to add insulation and electrical wiring. The screens needed to be updated with thermal pane windows, and we installed an overhead light and a nice carpet. Our biggest challenge was figuring out how to handle temperature control. In our area, we deal with severe weather just about all year round. With Wintertide hot and cold temperatures down below zero and humid Summer weather, an effective heating and cooling system was a necessity. We considered extending the existing HVAC duct, however weren’t triumphant with this solution. The HVAC duct would have been an expensive and complex work, and take up a great deal of essential space. There was also the worry that our modern oil furnace and air conditioner would be unable to keep up with the additional square footage. I spent some time researching weird styles of Heating plus A/C device online, and came across ductless mini splits. The ductless device is comprised of several separate components which are linked by a slim conduit. Both the outdoor and indoor device are compact and lightweight. The indoor air handler mounted high up on the wall, and is conveniently controlled by a cordless remote. The ductless system provides both heating and cooling capability, genuinely maintaining perfect year round temperature in the modern study room. It operates quietly and is attractively energy efficient. Although we hired a professional Heating plus A/C business to handle the installation, the job was completed in a few minutes.
