My house is close to two hundred years old, & there are a lot of downsides.  Most of the windows are painted shut & they all leak air. Nothing in the house is level, square or plumb, & every system is outdated.  We’ve gradually been upgrading the plumbing & wiring to improve safety, efficiency & reliability. Most of the rooms in the house only have a single electrical outlet, the water pipes are corroded, & there are no overhead lights.  Every one of us also have insufficient insulation in the walls & ceilings & no duct system. Trying to heat & cool our giant, outdated house is nearly impossible. While every one of us hope to someday invest in some type of whole cabin Heating, Ventilation, & A/C system, every one of us are currently getting by with fans, portable air conditioners & ventless gas heaters.  The ventless gas heating systems are fairly effective but not super energy efficient. They also require a fantastic deal of service. I am consistently cleaning the filters to keep the gas heating systems operating respectfully. Even a minor accumulation of dust causes the orange warning light to blink, & then the oil furnace refuses to shutdown. It continues to blast at maximum capacity non stop, & I worry about overheating & safety risks.  However, cleaning the filters is aggravating. I wish the filters were disposable so that I could simply replace the outdated with new. Instead, I’m forced to clean metal screens in hot water, scrub away the dust & then dry them. Occasionally, this isn’t sufficient & I then need to take the oil furnace apart to wipe the inner workings. This requires a blast of air to discabin the dust from components. The dust then spreads throughout the room, & everything needs to be cleaned.
