Last fall, my husband decided to take me to this quaint little bed and breakfast out in the country for our anniversary. The whole setting was very beautiful and romantic. The bed and breakfast was located right next to a lovely little lake by the edge of the woods and it was decorated in an old fashioned way. I loved the way that it looked, but we quickly realized that there was a problem with the old fashioned setting! Not only did it look old fashioned, it actually was! What I mean is that this particular bed and breakfast didn’t really have any modern conveniences, including an up to date heating and air conditioning system. Now, since it was the fall, the lack of an air conditioning wasn’t that big of a deal for me. If it had been summer, that would have been a big issue, since I can’t sleep without the A/C running when it’s hot outside. But since it was fall and the weather was really cooling off, we were more concerned about the temperature being too cold. I’ve never stayed anywhere without a working furnace of some sort, and so when we realized we only had a fireplace and a big pile of wood outside for our source of heating, we were a little bit concerned. Luckily, my husband knows how to build a fire and we also found a tiny little electric space heater in one of the closets. At least the place had electricity. I told my husband that next time he books a rental, he should double check their source of heating and cooling before he pays the rent!
