The first home I ever owned was a single wide trailer in my mid-20s. I often look back fondly at such memories. Though it was obviously small and sparse accommodations for me, it was everything I needed back then and more. All I and my dog needed and more, that is. It still felt roomy with the two of us in there. I will admit that I was more interested in the piece of land that I received along with the trailer. It was a small plot in the country, away from the noisy, claustrophobic suburbs that grew up in where you could hear your neighbor’s phone ring. You might think that insulation and climate control was a problem, but in fact, it was a highly manageable problem. I only needed two window A/C units for the entire trailer, basically set up on either side. I won’t lie, the heat can get pretty intense around here, but those window A/C units did their job well! I will admit that for the five years that I lived in that trailer I did go through two pairs of window A/C units, because they are less expensive to replace than they are to repair. I did not mind this all that much. The space heaters that I bought for our mild winters did a great job of heating the home. I kept one in the living room where my dog slept and one for my bedroom where I slept. Now, I enjoy a bigger home and a central heating and air system, but those were simpler times!
