I felt really bad the other night. So I woke up in the middle of the night shivering. I thought my wife turned down the temperature again. My wife sometimes tends to sleepwalk to the thermostat and turn the temperature down and he is the one who always messes with the thermostat. So that night right while he was sleeping I yelled to him and I said, “Stop turning down the thermostat I’m freezing, you need to stop touching it, you’re not the only one who lives here!” So I got up and walked downstairs to the thermostat to turn the heat back on. But for some reason, the thermostat was not recognizing the buttons that I was pushing. Normally I could hear the furnace kick on and the air come through the air registers but this time I couldn’t. Then I decided to check the battery status on the thermostat. It looks like the batteries on the thermostat were really low. I replaced the batteries on the thermostat. It turns out that the thermostat lost power because of low batteries and that’s why it felt like the furnace shut off. Now I just need to make sure that I’m consistently checking the thermostat battery usage every month or so to avoid any interruptions with our heating and cooling system. Who knew that the thermostat is practically the heart and motherboard of keeping the house warm and cool? I felt so bad at yelling at my husband while he was asleep. I went back upstairs and apologized.
