Though my wife can sometimes be frustrated by my cheerful and hopeful demeanor, she is ecstatic to see that I pretty much always look on the bright side.
The biggest test to that talent of mine has been the birth of our first child, who really doesn’t like going to sleep! Since the new baby doesn’t appreciate taking naps or sleeping in general, we’re currently having to sleep in shifts while the other tends to the baby.
While my wife is able to sleep through just about anything, I find that the baby’s restless crying only keeps me entirely awake, so, I try to see the bright side – now I have this extra time in the midst of the evening, which I can dedicate to handling things that have been shelved around the household. One of the biggest things that I kept failing to do was change the air filter for our HVAC device, so I maintained that first. After that, I went around and thoroughly dusted the house. Then I made sure to scrub down the air duct vents, and I had a look at the system of ductwork itself for excessive dirt and dust buildup. This was mostly a precautionary measure, as I needed to know ahead of time if we needed to get our system of ductwork cleansed. Aside from that, I also changed the batteries for our thermostat. I knew it was practically dead, so why wait around, right? By the time I was finished with these small chores, my wife managed to soothe the baby to sleep. That’s one evening down… and several-hundred more to go.
