Anytime my girlfriend and I run our heater it smells like burnt hair.
The odor is driving me insane and I am desperate to fix it.
At first I thought it was just a dirty furnace filter. Then I tried vacuuming the inside of the heater system. I then ordered professional ductwork cleaning because I figured the dust must be in there. Nope, nothing has stopped that foul burnt hair smell. Right when the heater clicks on, the house reeks of it. Either I adapt to the smell overtime or is dissipates after about an hour. But, that first startup of the heater is rough. I don’t want to have company over in the winter because it is so gross. I have burned candles, used air fresheners and opened windows. The smell can’t be vented out. I think I need to get professional heating service. I need a HVAC professional to take the heater apart and clean every little corner in it. There must be hair and dust deep inside the system. Maybe the HVAC professional can remove it and the smell will be gone. If that does not work, then I am resorting to an air purifier. With an air purification system, the air quality is cleaned while the heater works. It is said to remove dust and smells from the indoor air quality. So hopefully the smell of burnt hair will never offend my nostrils again as long as I use the air cleaner. Who knows though? With my luck the house will always smell a little gross.
