Being a woman in the workforce is very difficult.
There are a lot of stereotypes today, and I have vowed that I will not let those stereotypes get in the way of what I want to do with my life. I work in a trade that is not very easy, and people are surprised that a woman like me would be doing something like that. I work as an HVAC technician for a local HVAC company in my city. It isn’t like I have been doing HVAC work for only a few months. I am the most experienced HVAC technician in my company, outside of the owner of the business. I started working for him since the beginning of the shop, and people have known me as the HVAC technician around here for a while. However, new people are always surprised when I show up to fix their furnace. I can repair your furnace, install your air conditioner, and run every vent in your house. There is nothing that I cannot do when it comes to the HVAC field. The only reason that people are surprised is that I am the only HVAC woman in my city. I wish more ladies would be interested in HVAC work. When I travel to schools in our area to recruit for training, I constantly encourage young women to give HVAC a try. You might find that you actually enjoy it! There is something empowering about grabbing a drill and fixing a furnace that your husband couldn’t figure out. Women can be good at HVAC repairs as well!
