I thought my warm season task at the camp would be a lovely time, although I suppose it wasn’t the first time I was wrong about something.

The task ended up being much more difficult than I imagined, plus not because of the teenagers! The teenagers attending the camp were mostly easy to deal with, however most of the task involved back breaking or uncomfortable labor plus not just hanging with teenagers.

I regularly had to cut wood plus mow turf, wipe dishes plus sometimes even help prepare different types of meals! But without question the worst thing I had to do all warm season was dealing with all the wasps. During a nature walk the campers disturbed a truly immense wasp nest, plus had stirred up the whole colony of them in the process. Because wasps are territorial plus vicious, they weren’t gratified to just sting those campers they also followed them back to camp. I was essentially charged with finding that wasp nest plus destroying it, killing as many of the wasps as I could in the process. I was happy that they had some wasp spray, which blasts out especially hard plus can spray for over 20 feet so you don’t have to get too close to the actual nest. After I hit it with the spray I ran up plus poured gasoline all over the wasp nest, lit a match, plus dashed away in a hurry. A little while later I went back with a fire extinguisher to make sure the fire didn’t spread, plus to check the overall destruction to the wasp nest. They were mostly dead, although I still was stung a bunch of times anyway.
