I have never been the mechanically inclined type.
It does not bother me in the least that my wife is every bit a far more experienced handywoman than I am a handyman.
It’s one of the many reasons I love her, after all. And what’s there not to love when she can handle pretty much any mechanical problem we have with any machinery around the house. I know we have saved a whole lot of money on house calls for various plumbing, electrical, and HVAC problems we have had over the years. She never ceases to amaze me when it comes to what she can fix all on her own, with the right tools of course. There have been few times when we have decided to defer to the judgment of a professional HVAC technician, but those times have come nonetheless. Though we don’t need them as often, we do have a good relationship with a local HVAC company. They handle some of the more complicated tasks for us. It’s funny when they ask us when the last time we had professional service was. They are often amazed when we say it’s been a couple years, but then my wife typically explains how mechanically inclined she is. She’s gotten some odd looks, but in the end, any good technician can’t deny that she does a good job of maintaining our HVAC units almost entirely by herself. Sometimes, she tries to teach me such things, but I’m beginning to suspect it’s only so that she can laugh at just how lost I am in the process. She thinks it’s endearing.
