Also, I found that running wires and fixing electric panels are more complicated and more dangerous than being an HVAC worker.
When I first moved into town, I really needed a job. The last few jobs that I had were factory jobs, and they showed no real path to a career. So when I decided to pack up and move, I wanted to pick a new career path. I knew that I couldn’t go back to college and take on any student debt. Instead, I decided to learn a trade. My first choice was to be an electrician. However, I quickly decided to be an HVAC worker instead. Electricians spend a lot of their time working outside during the Winter, fixing downed power lines and broken meters. However, I do not like the cold, and I would prefer to be in a warmer environment. During the normal Winter, HVAC workers spend their time indoors fixing furnaces and heaters. Even though those units are broken and it could be chilly, it is still a lot warmer than being outside. When we are working outdoors, it is usually underneath a house or in an attic, where the house is being built. Regardless, we HVAC workers typically get more heat than an electrician. Also, I found that running wires and fixing electric panels are more complicated and more dangerous than being an HVAC worker. I get to work on HVAC equipment, which is a lot simpler. As soon as I cut off the power to the HVAC unit, there is little danger for me. I also think it is cool that we provide heat and cooling to families in order to make them comfortable. I am so glad that I changed my mind and decided to be an HVAC technician.
