When my furnace stopped working, I immediately grabbed my phone and looked up the local HVAC company that I have always hired to fix my furnace and air conditioner.
The owner is a personal friend of mine, and he has always given me a fair price for fixing my HVAC units.
After calling the HVAC company, I learned that the company was under new management and that the old HVAC technician that was running the place had decided to retire. I didn’t really care that much, because I needed somebody to fix my furnace, so I asked to be placed on the schedule so that they could repair my furnace immediately. When the HVAC technician showed up, it was somebody that I didn’t recognize. After looking at my furnace for a few minutes, the HVAC technician told me that the problem didn’t look too serious. I asked him if he would need to purchase any parts, and he told me that he thought he had one in his van. After only an hour, the HVAC technician told me that he was done. He said he was going to call his boss to ask how much he would have to charge, but he assured me that it wouldn’t be anything over $150. While the HVAC technician was on the phone, I could hear that the worker was growing frustrated while talking to his boss. He hung up the phone angrily, and he told me that the repair would cost $400. We were both shocked. That definitely wasn’t a fair price for my furnace, but there was nothing I could do at this moment. I had to swallow my pride and pay the bill.
