I don’t want to go on vacation just to live a less comfortable life than I do ordinarily
If there is one thing I truly love about going on vacation, it is getting to stay in a nice hotel and blast the air conditioning at some thermostat setting I would never allow at home. I love air conditioning. I understand, now that I am a bit older, that I am very fortunate to have air conditioning in my life. Many people all over the world do not live in houses with a/c, drive cars with a/c, work in buildings with a/c, and shop at supermarkets that blast a/c for us and for the fruits. That’s why I was shocked to learn about people who are all of a sudden raving about the advantage of taking a vacation without air conditioning. It is considered the right thing to do and is becoming all the rage right now. The whole notion revolves around the concept of being green, or environmentally friendly. Well, I went to a more southern country on vacation last summer, and I quickly learned that the regular lives of people there rarely included central HVAC. I don’t want to go on vacation just to live a less comfortable life than I do ordinarily. Vacations are supposed to be a bit frivolous, a bit of a nicer time than everyday life affords you, right? At least they are in my mind. I understand that we need to be more deliberate about what we do to our common home called earth, but I am not willing to spend big bucks I really can’t afford without sacrificing just to go somewhere and live without a/c or the heater if it’s cold out.
