It could be a reaction to the feeling that I am losing more and more control of what matters in my life.
Or I could just be tired of the HVAC thermostat yo yo going on in my home. I was under the impression that the older I got, the more control I would have. As I aged I assumed there would be far less compromise for the sake of my family. I don’t think I could have been more wrong. In fact, the older my children get, the more I have to do without to pay for their stuff. I pay for school, projects, sports, clothes, electronics and the list goes on and on. Don’t get me wrong, my children aren’t ungrateful or anything. It’s just that I would like to have a bit more of mine instead of paying for theirs. This is selfish as can be I’m sure. However, I take little steps to see that I am at least giving myself the semblance of control. My latest little thing has been the HVAC system. I am the one who schedules the semi annual maintenance. It’s me on the ladder changing the air filter every month. So, I decided I would outright seized control of the HVAC altogether. I called up the HVAC guy and had him come out to put in a smart thermostat. I wanted it so it could manage my HVAC usage more precisely because I love saving money on the energy bill. But, the real reason is because I could set it and keep the code to myself. This felt so great for some reason! But, it only lasted a few days before my wife demanded access to the app. So much for total HVAC control.
